This multilayered painting visually interprets the emotional barriers an individual has placed around herself to protect her from recurring trauma and abuse. She is resting “safe” from harm in the center but is essentially imprisoned, unable to enjoy the growth and freedom of the outside world. She alone holds the key to her own release.
